OLSS Community:

The 2017 - 2018 School Year is almost upon us, and to prepare and celebrate we revamped our website over the summer! Of vital importance to you are two sections to peruse as we get ready to begin the school year:

Section 1: Admissions Information

Under this general tab you'll find sections with information related to registering as a new or returning student, up to the minute information on tuition and fees (including the all important meal fee - growing children need to eat!), tuition assistance, and, of great interest (as this will speed up registration on Friday, August 11 from 8:30 am - 9:00 am for new students, 9:00 am - 12:00 noon for returning students) are forms you can print and fill out at home to bring with you to orientation. The forms under the categories of Applications, Forms & Technology Forms are the ones you need to bring.

Section 2: Parent - Student Handbook

Our Parent - Student handbook is chock full of information to help clarify all of the various policies (the principles, goals and philosophy that guides life at OLSS) and procedures (steps to achieve our shared goals). You can view all of the handbook online, or download it as a PDF document to print and / or read on your digital device.

Many sections have been clarified and updated, so even long time families should make some time to go over each section (you'll need to sign a form that says you've done that, so might as well get it done now!). Here are a few of the changes you'll need to know so that kids and parents aren't caught off guard on the first day of school:

Backpacks

Rolling backpacks are not allowed for any reason.

Cell Phone / Electronics Policy

Personal electronic devices are not allowed on campus (examples include cell phones, smart / digital watches [Samsung Wear, Apple Watch, etc.], tablets, mp3 players, laptops, radios, cameras, personal gaming systems, etc. If found on campus items will be confiscated and taken to the front office where a parent / adult must come in to collect the items. If a child needs an electronic device for after school use (off campus), an adult must drop off the item to the front office for the child to collect after school. If a student collects an item after school it must stay powered off until they are in the car of the adult who is picking them up after school.

Uniform Policy

A few choices have been implemented with regards to school uniforms (primarily with regards to shoes and socks) - please check the relevant areas of the handbook to ensure that all students are in uniform starting from the first day of school.

Discipline Policy

We've worked hard this past year and over the summer to revamp the Discipline Policy for the School. Please pay careful attention to the responsibilities for students, parents and the school, as well as to the revised consequences list, which detail the levels of response for behavioral issues.

Be on the lookout for posts like this at least twice a week, as well as a weekly summary of upcoming events every Friday (once school actually begins). Let us know what you think in the comments section of this post, and we look forward to seeing you this coming school year.

Blessings & Peace,
Hugo De La Rosa III
